MSM Summer Camp

We are only a few days away from camp! Take a look at the letter below to find info on packing. If you have friends that would like to go to camp, contact the church office today! We have a few spots left and we'd love to have them!
If you have a friend that is interested in camp, let us know ASAP! Call the office or come by during office hours this week (9am - 3pm). You can download the Registration Form and email (aatkinson@fbcol.org) or fax (562.420.9140) the form to the office. If there is a financial need, we want to help in any way possible. Fill out a Scholarship Form and get it to the office as soon as possible. These are given on a need basis, but with camp a few days away, we will be helping those we hear from.
CAMPER LETTER:
Dear Campers and Parents of Campers,
Here are the details for our trip to Hume Lake! We are really looking forward to a great week together in the mountains. If there's something we've missed or you have a question about a specific situation
Departure: We will meet at church at 7:00 am, Sunday, August 2nd in the East Lot. Please be on time! If you are not here when the bus is ready to go, we will leave without you and you will have to get your own ride (this would be bad.)
Return: We will be back around 6:00pm on Saturday, August 8th.
Health Screening: New State-mandated laws require that we give each student a health screening within 24 hours of arrival at camp. Prior to our departure, we will have medical professionals at the church to give each student a brief health screening. This will be part of our check-in process, so please be on-time. This is a very basic medical check to ensure you aren't full of viruses or bleeding from the eyes. Nothing invasive.
Meds: Please place medications in a ziplock bag, clearly labeled with your child's name and date of birth written in permanent marker. Medications must be in original container with doctor's directions if it is a prescription. Don't send tylenol, Pepto Bismol or other over the counter meds. (They have all of that up at camp and nurses can administer them as needed.) Please DO NOT pack your Meds in your suitcase! They will be collected at check in.
Forms: Included in this mailing, you will find a medical and liability release form that must be filled out for all students, and a medication administration record that must be filled out if your child takes any medications. Please have these filled out, along with the full amount for camp paid, and turn in at check-in, or before check-in. Please DO NOT pack your forms in your suitcase!
Luggage: Each person should pack what they can carry: one suitcase, a sleeping bag, pillow, and if desired, some sort of backpack. Mark each item plainly with your name and the church name. Please use the luggage tags provided.
Things to Bring: Sleeping bag, pillow, towels, toiletries, casual modest clothing, 2 pairs of shoes, sweatshirt, swimsuit, water bottle, Bible, notebook, pen, and flashlight.
Dress Code: Here is Hume's Policy, they will be enforcing this. Modesty is the key!
Girls: No two-piece bathing suits of any kind (including tankinis). No bare midriffs, no spaghetti-strap tank tops or dresses. Please be mindful of short shorts.
Guys: No Speedo swimsuits or underwear showing above the waistline
Things to leave at home: fireworks, electronic games, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, etc.
Extra Money: We will be stopping for lunch on the way up to camp and on the way home. There are many recreation options at camp and Hume suggest $35-$50 for these activities, camp pictures, food, t-shirts, etc. Excessive amounts of money are not suggested. Do not pack your food money! (That would also be bad.)
Camp Address: Campers full name, Church Name-Dates of Camp, Ponderosa Camp, 64144 Hume Lake Road, Hume, CA 93628
Camp Email: Parents and friends can also send you emails by going to Hume’s website and clicking on the “Fun Link.” There will then be an option to “email a camper.” www.humelake.org Please use discretion in what you mail to camp. (We don't want you to make your kid home sick through letters, so if you have questions about this go to www.MSMparents.com and click on Camp Letters.)
Camp Phone: If there is an emergency, you can call the camp (559-335-2000) and they will get your student on the phone. For normal "how's camp" calls, please send your student up with a phone card. If they call collect from the pay phones there is often a surcharge and it can be VERY expensive. (That, again, would be bad.)
For more info, you can go to the Hume Lake Website (www.humelake.org) and watch videos and learn more about camp. Click on the top menu that says "Youth Programs", then click on "Jr. High", then "Meadow Ranch". If you have any questions, just contact us here at the office.
It's going to be a great week together!
