Thursday Thoughts
Over the past few weeks, I've been planning out what I am going to be doing over the summer and what I'm going to be doing next year. I applied to work on summer staff at a camp in Oregon, which I knew would be a long shot to get, but still thought I'd try. Moreover, I applied for a Resident Assistant position for the upcoming school year. Applying for this was a huge risk because I gave up something I really loved. I was excited about these positions because they both have a lot of potential and both have really great Christ-centered communities I wanted to be a part of. Although I was excited to find out about RA, I was really questioning my desires and motives for wanting this position, especially within the previous week. I was unsure about whether or not this is what I wanted to do. In my head I was also dueling with the idea about how I hate change, and maybe this was one of those times where I didn't want to have any change. I don't know what it was, but I wasn't completely sold about being an RA.
I was supposed to find out about the camp at the end of last week and then about RA on Monday. On Saturday I got my letter from the camp and was declined because I wouldn't be able to commit for the entire summer because I'd have to leave early if I was an RA. Furthermore, on Monday I found out I didn't get the RA position. I was disappointed for a minute, but was relieved very shortly after. This experience showed me that God was involved in this whole process and gave me the uneasy feelings about being RA. He showed me that there will be better plans for me in the future and I have to trust Him completely. He turned this into a time of praise and I am so thankful this happened to me! Trusting God might be a little uncomfortable or a little undesirable at the time, but He does amazing things. Since Monday, I have already been presented with 3 great opportunities for next year, none of which I would have been able to do if I was an RA.
So how about you? What is something in your life in which you can see God's hand at work? What has God shown you recently? How has God changed the desires of your heart?
I'd really love to hear from you, and I'll even give you points for your answers!
